The short answer
$1,000–$3,000That is roughly what seamless aluminum gutters alone cost on a typical Jersey City house. The math: a Jersey City price page lists seamless aluminum at $8 to $15 per foot installed, and a typical home has 125 to 200 feet of gutter (Everlast Gutters' Jersey City price page, 2026). 125 × $8 = $1,000; 200 × $15 = $3,000. Leaders, guards, fascia repair and box-gutter work come on top.

The price table
Local figures come from price pages Jersey City gutter companies publish. National figures are averages from cost guides and are labeled national; local quotes can land outside them, especially on tall or historic buildings.

Worked examples
Three jobs, priced from the table
Frame two-family, new seamless gutters
150 ft of seamless aluminum at the local $8–$15 per foot.
150 × $8 = $1,200
150 × $15 = $2,250
Rowhouse front, membrane reline plus one copper leader
One membrane reline ($900–$1,900) and a 35-ft copper leader at $20.56–$62.63 per foot.
35 × $20.56 ≈ $720
35 × $62.63 ≈ $2,192
Adding guards to an existing run
150 ft of guards at the local $15–$25 per foot.
150 × $15 = $2,250
150 × $25 = $3,750
Worked examples using the table above. They are illustrations, not quotes: footage, access, fascia condition and the building itself change the real number. The rowhouse example mixes national figures (Modernize, Fixr).
What moves the price
Why Jersey City quotes vary
- Height and access. A three-story rowhouse or a three-family needs longer ladders, roof access through a hatch, or scaffolding. That shows up in every line, from cleaning to replacement.
- What's behind the gutter. Rotted fascia on a frame house, or rotted wood inside a cornice, has to be fixed before new gutters go up. Estimates often price it per board or after inspection.
- Leaders. A leader that runs three or four stories, with offsets around cornices, can cost as much as a short gutter run.
- Historic districts. Matching copper or half-round, and preparing for staff review, add cost on downtown blocks.
- Box gutters. No Jersey City or New York contractor publishes box-gutter prices, so those ranges are national. Long runs shared across neighboring houses can land well outside them.
By building
Which lines apply to which house
Brick rowhouse downtown
The front gutter is often a box gutter inside the cornice, so the box-gutter lines matter most: repair, reline, rebuild or convert. Add a long front leader, often copper on historic blocks, and a rear scupper with its own conductor head and leader. Cleaning is usually priced at the top of the height range because the work is three or more stories up.
Frame two- or three-family
Hanging gutters front and back, usually aluminum, so the per-foot lines for seamless aluminum, 6-inch upgrades and guards apply. Leaders are long and numerous. Fascia replacement is the most common surprise on these houses.
Detached house in Greenville or the West Side
Closest to the national averages: a few hundred feet of hanging gutter at most, two or three stories, ordinary leaders. Local seamless prices and the guard lines are the best guide.
Read the fine print
What these prices usually leave out
- Fascia and trim repair, priced per board or after inspection.
- Scaffolding or lifts, on tall fronts where ladders won't do.
- Removal and disposal of old gutters, which some quotes include and some don't.
- Leaders, often priced separately from the gutter per foot.
- Time for historic-district review, which doesn't add a fee by itself but can add preparation.
Two quotes that look far apart are often covering different work. The replacement page has a checklist for making them comparable.
Tax
Sales tax on gutter work
New Jersey treats new gutters as a capital improvement, which is exempt from sales tax when the homeowner gives the contractor Form ST-8. Repairs to existing gutters are taxable, at the state rate of 6.625 percent (NJ Division of Taxation, Bulletin S&U-2). On a large repair, that difference is worth asking about.
Cost questions
Why are the national price ranges so wide?
National figures average jobs across the whole country, from one-story ranch houses to tall urban buildings, and from low-cost to high-cost regions. They are useful for scale, but a Jersey City quote depends on the specific building.
Does a per-foot gutter price include the leaders?
Usually not. Most per-foot prices cover the gutter itself, with leaders priced separately per foot or per leader. A written estimate should list both so quotes can be compared.
Do estimates cost anything?
Estimates arranged through this site are free and come with no obligation. Prices on this page are research, not quotes; the actual price is set after a professional looks at the house.
