Start with the building
Which page fits the house
Jersey City has three common kinds of residential buildings, and each tends to have its own gutter system. Finding the building type first usually leads to the right service.
| Building | Usual gutter system | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Brick rowhouse with a wood cornice | A box gutter built into the cornice, draining to a conductor head and leader | Box & built-in gutters |
| Frame two- or three-family | Hanging K-style aluminum gutters with long leaders to the sidewalk | Seamless installation or replacement |
| House on a historic block | Copper or half-round gutters and leaders matched to neighbors | Copper & half-round |
| Flat roof with a rear parapet | A scupper through the parapet into a leader | Leaders & scuppers |

The larger jobs on older buildings come first. Costs for every service are collected in the Jersey City gutter cost guide.

Before calling
What helps an estimate go quickly
Estimates are free and come with no obligation. A few details make the first conversation more useful:
- The kind of building: rowhouse, frame two- or three-family, or detached house
- How many stories, and whether there is roof access through a hatch
- What the problem looks like: overflow, a leak inside, a sagging run, a stain on the brick
- Whether the house is in one of Jersey City's five historic districts
- Photos from the sidewalk and, if it is safe, from the roof
Most homeowners in Jersey City own the building they live in and rent out the other floors, so tenants may need notice before ladder or roof work. Calls are answered Mon–Fri, 7AM–9PM.
